An owlsome weekend

I had the most brilliant Bank Holiday weekend EVER.

On Saturday, we went to see owls. OWLS! Ant bought me a falconry experience for my birthday so we drove up to Forge (near Machynlleth) and it was amazing. This is me having a nice cwtch with my favourite owl ever in the whole wide world. Her name’s Mog:image

Mog is a little White Faced Scops Owl. You know, the ones that do that crazy thing when they feel threatened. She was adorable, even if she pooed on me.

Mog loved Ant too. Actually, all the owls like Ant. He’s like some sort of owl whisperer. I knew there was a good reason to keep him around, he attracts owls!image

On Sunday we had a little lie in (as much as the cats would allow) before walking to Riverside Market (because sausages) and had lunch at Pieminster. Coffee and pie on a Sunday – what more could a person ask for?! This was actually not the pie I ordered, but it’s the pie that I ate. I think it was actually nicer than the pie I ordered so I was pleased at the error!image

Many lovely new records have come to live with me in the last couple of weeks. This weekend I acquired the new Tigercub single, Neu 2, Suede and Gruff Rhys’ American Interior which is just bloody lovely. image

Yes, I do feel better

This may be a pretty poor return to blogging, but if I don’t actually do it on November 1st then NaBloPoMo will never happen.

I have spent much of the day [lies, about an hour] pondering something to write. I am still devoid of ideas so I’ll just post this…

Bernardtweet

Yes. That is a tweet to me from the one and only Mr Bernard Butler, and yes he has used the hashtag #selfieboobs. I don’t know why. I don’t care why. All I know is that little old me over here has received a tweet from a musical hero and I am supermegaawesomely happy about it.

you’re standing on my neck…

la la laa la laaaa…*

Yes. I have been watching Daria again. ALL the Daria. Pretty sure I was some sort of cross between Daria and Jane in high school. No bad thing really, not that I realised it at the time.

It’s been another month, hasn’t it? Except the DPU post, of course. I am seriously crap at this, and I’m getting worse. I haven’t even taken as many photos of cats as I usually do!

I’ve been having amazing project ideas, usually when driving, and they’ve been flying around my head for days. I sat down this evening to write them down or sketch them and *poof* they’re gone. I hate that. I really thought my creative block was gone but anything I had seems to have evaporated in this stupid heat. WTF actual British summer?! Do some rain or thunder or something and stop sapping my energy!

So, if you have any suggestions as to where my mojo may be hiding (I’ve looked in all the usual places – under the sofa, in the litter tray, behind Monty…) or indeed how YOU deal with extreme lack of motivation/ideas, please let me know. Tweet me @kulabeth or leave a comment here.

I know the first one is “unplug”. I know that.

*this is the La las from the Daria theme which is called You’re Standing On My Neck. It could be mistaken with the la las from Beautiful Ones, or indeed any other 90s song with la las in. But it’s not, it’s that one. Makes sense, see.

WI o’clock

We’ve had a busy month at Birchgrove WI. First we printed about a million flyers for our Spring Fair, then we had our AGM and birthday cake (it’s our 1st birthday!) and installed a new committee (which includes me, the new secretary. Oh yes.), and finally the Spring Fair last week. It was awesome.05-2013

It was a gorgeous sunny day, lots of people came and everyone had a good time. I had a stall with Ney and Shelley, we sold nothing (and bought EVERYTHING) but it was still fun. Ney and I are going to make more things now we know how other people do things. Also, we had some nice visual merchandising going on!DSC02040 DSC02042

At the AGM we had to vote to adopt the WI’s resolution for 2013/14 which is, essentially, Save Our High Streets, I like this resolution, I like it a lot. I’m not 100% certain as to how we’ll go about saving them but I guess everything starts at home so we’ll see. Looking forward to being a part of this.IMG_20130601_150241

May

I’m going to assume that I was busy in May. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.05-20131

May consisted of puppy, puppy, more puppy, puppy and friends, finally making a home for my blue tea set, meeting chickens and ducks, making things (at last!!!), lots of WI stuff and being obsessed about home furnishings. Oh, and obscene salads.

10 things I’ve been doing

1. Organising our WI Spring Fair. This is fun. I like planning things. If you’re in Cardiff next Saturday morning please come along. I’d like some chickens to be there, everyone should meet chickens. Or owls. Owls and chickens.

2. Making things. I’ve been embroidering a bag today, and made some more of my little button and ribbon pins for the fair. Ney and I are having a stall! She’s made lovely bracelets and her Dad’s made little wooden mushrooms! They’re so cute. I hope we sell things, it’s such a lovely feeling when people buy things you’ve made. Going to take along the Lolcat Colouring Books I made for the Book Arts Fair 2 years ago too. I think I sold 3 then. Everyone loves Lolcats still, right?

3. Thinking about chairs. Specifically this chair from Haus which I sadly missed out on. BJ1n8GKCYAAwB6ENow I have chair envy for the person who has the chair. (by the way, that pink and grey fabric is even more beautiful in real life. Please go visit Haus and see their lovely fabrics!) Also we had to destroy the giant chair in order to get it out of the house. I have everything crossed that the smaller one and sofa will fit out of the door without requiring a saw, would rather them be rehomed as it felt awful destroying a perfectly good piece of furniture.

4. Enjoying that extra load of space that we’ve acquired since removing the giant chair. Monty’s not so thrilled, it was his chair.

5. Watching all the programmes we’ve recorded. I’m now up to date on Game of Thrones (needs more Tyrion) and Mad Men. I’m not sure what to think of Mad Men right now, I still love it of course (the most perfect mise-en-scene EVER) but it feels quite disjointed to me, and Don’s being a right git. Don’t like him being like that. Still would though. Mmmm Jon Hamm.

6. Working on making work better. Looking for an upgrade, not a way out.

7. Eating ALL the food.  I need to stop doing this. I also avoided the gym this week. Bad Bethy. However I now have nice vegetables (which I’ve forgotten to cook for my lunch tomorrow – ARSE!!!) so as long as I eat them and avoid cake then things should start moving in the right direction. That’s the plan anyway. Also Kath gave me a cute little picnic basket for my birthday. WIll it become my lunchbox? Probably!

8. Listening to music. We streamed the new Daft Punk record the other night. It’s really good. Also the 90s is apparently fashionable now so I’ve been listening to some classics in the car – Suede, Beck, Metallica… yes I know I almost exclusively listen to 90s music anyway but it’s nice to be a fashion leader once in a while! I’ll have you know I bought this cardigan in H&M in 1999. So there.

9. Adoring this handsome little guy. IMG_20130502_133526

10. Being inspired by Anna Denise‘s beautiful illustrated journals. I wish I felt creative and dedicated enough to do this,
